Le Club Keep Cool
Workshops for VCE students (year 10, 11 and 12):
Stress Management in French
VCE students are stressed. And the closer the final exams, the more stressed they are. I realised that while working as French Assistant in my first years in Australia (2012-2014). That’s when I began weaving simple breathing techniques and exam strategies into my one‑to‑one French tuition – always in French, so students were building language and emotional regulation at the same time.
Since 2024, I’ve expanded this into 1‑hour medium-size groups* workshops designed to support both wellbeing and VCE French performance.
Each workshop typically includes:
Welcome, introductions and warm‑up in French: gentle small talk so students can say how they feel and settle into speaking mode;
Qigong, yoga and breathing exercises: light movement, stretches and breathwork while revising vocabulary for parts of the body (the French teacher assists by writing on the board the vocabulary);
Mini silent meditations: very short pauses (about one minute) to reset focus and calm the nervous system;
Walking meditation: mindful walking in the classroom to release tension and improve concentration;
“Keep Cool” card draw: each student chooses a card with a short sentence in French and reads it aloud
A wisdom story: Nadia reads a short story in French and discuss it with students
Facilitated speaking circle: structured, supported conversation in French to build confidence and fluency.
Students report these workshops help them feel calmer, more present, and more confident speaking French – especially as exams approach. The also help shift students’ attitude - they have a role model and a lived experience practicing mindfulness in school’s premises to support their wellbeing.
NB: I have an active WWCC and a recent Police check.
